One of Raj Kapoor’s biggest legacies has to be the sprawling RK studios, which has been home to many cinema artistes over the years. However, ever since the infamous fire that broke out at the property, the Kapoor family is looking out to sell the property. According to reports, the 2 acre plot will fetch more than a whopping Rs 500 Crores. And considering the large number of people in the Kapoor clan, it is expected that the profit will be distributed amongst them. The entire news of RK studios being put up for sale came out a few weeks ago when Rishi Kapoor mentioned that it had become economically unviable to keep up with the renovations, especially since the fire broke out. He added that even before that tragedy, the property was hemorrhaging money.

The Kapoor family recently revealed that they have decided to sell off patriarch Raj Kapoor’s famous RK Studios. It was reported that late Raj Kapoor’s wife Krishna Raj Kapoor, sons Randhir, Rishi, and Rajiv, and daughters Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain have taken a collective decision to let go of the property. In its heyday, the Kapoor family used to host their famous Holi parties at the RK Studios. Not only this, many hit films like ‘Shree 420’, ‘Sangam’, ‘Bobby’ and ‘Prem Rog’ were shot here.
Actor Annu Kapoor opened up about the same and said, “It is heartbreaking. It’s an iconic place. I’ve also worked at this studio,” ANI reported.

RK Studios’ logo is derived from an iconic scene from the film ‘Barsaat’ which also happened to feature on its poster. The poster had Raj Kapoor holding Nargis in one arm and a violin in another and was so loved by all that it was forever immortalised in the logo. Located in Chembur, several blockbuster films have been shot in the studio. ‘Awaara’, which is known as ‘The Vagabond’ overseas is one of the most successful films which was shot at the RK Studios.
